Ballymena Allstars Ladies Football Club continued their impressive start to the season with an excellent win over Linfield Ladies.

The Allstars were boosted by the return of their leading goal scorer Alison Smyth as well as two international American Stars, Katie Condon and Miranda Graham for this match.

The first half was very much a game of equals with both teams having their fair share of chances. Alison Smyth had a shot on goal which was superbly cleared by the Linfield keeper.

Linfield kept the pressure on Ballymena but a great breakthrough came when Jayne Perry slipped a lovely ball through to the feet of Rebecca Boyce who went on to round the keeper and score.

Throughout this half both teams created chances which either hit the woodwork or were saved by the respective keepers. On 23 min Linfield were able to break down Ballymena’s defence and score making it 1-1.

After this Ballymena bounced back after Alison Smyth passed a great through ball to Rachel Fulton who shot and scored making it 2-1.

Ballymena started out strong in 2nd half winning a lot of corners and free kicks. Alison Smyth was then able to round the Linfield defence to score her 1st goal of the season. (3-1). Ballymena kept the pressure with American Katie Condon scoring her 1st goal for Ballymena to make it 4-1.

Linfield continued to fight back but a fantastic goal kick from Allstar Ciara McCoy was met by Katie Condon who scored gain (5-1).

After this Ballymena seemed to relax a bit, this was evident due to the poor defending which led to Linfield’s 2nd goal. (5-2)

Linfield kept the pressure on but were simply not strong enough for this impressive Ballymena side. A further great pass from Clare Timoney allowed Ali Smyth to run through and score her 2nd goal of the match.

This was by far Ballymena’s best performance of the season, which saw them play some lovely flowing football. They currently sit third in the NIWFA Davisons Frudles Premier League.
